Welcome

Welcome to my little corner of the world. I am so honored by your visit today. My name is Kristi and I am married to my college sweetheart(I refer to him here as "Mr. Incredible"), momma to my 2 beautiful girls who are growing much too quickly, a high school computer teacher, photographer, and a gardener (at times~right now I'm growing weeds). I love to laugh, drink strong Starbucks coffee, take pictures, and be anywhere my family is. Jesus is my Savior and I try so hard to be the wife and momma that He has called me to be. I often fail but He lovingly picks me up, dusts me off, and encourages me that with Him all things are possible. Feel free to join me on this journey of faith, stop in and say hello, look around, and leave a comment~I love comments. Why "Kiki's Corner?" My nephews call me Aunt Kiki and I love that too.

Over the River and Through the Woods....

....to Grandmother's house we go!  Last week the girls and I made the long 9 hour drive to surprise my 95 year old Grandmother with a special Christmas visit.  She had recently fallen and my heart had been longing to see her ever since.  The girls wanted to see their great-grandmother too, so we travelled all the way to Tulsa just to see her (Uncle Tony, I'm sorry we didn't get to see you this trip.  I really thought we were going to see you in Texas in 3 days but you surprised us instead!).

Grandmother couldn't believe her eyes when she saw us.  The girls had grown so much since we last made the long drive.  It was a wonderful visit, one I will visit often in my mind.

My grandmother LOVES to play scrabble.  Us?  Um, not so much.  But, the girls enjoy Words with Friends on their IPhone.  Do you play?  It really is fun...and surprisingly, it's scrabble but coolified because it's on an iPhone.

Playing the real-deal Scrabble with your 95 year old Grandmother and your daughters is coolified too because it is filled with laughter and visiting and wonderful memories...and ornery memories too.  On the first game we passed the tile bag around the table and when it came time for Grandmother to draw 7 tiles, she looked at her seven tiles and then promptly put them back in the bag and drew seven more because she didn't like them.  Ha!

Did I say a word? Of course not!  She chuckled and acknowledged to her great-granddaughters that she has just cheated and then shrugged her shoulders and smiled.  So cute!

I think we ended up playing 7 games on our visit with great-grandmother.  We all won games...but we were the real winners because we took the opportunity to go see her when the Lord prompted our hearts and I'm so thankful for our time together.
The next morning we arrived at breakfast time so that we could meet some of her fellow residents and friends.  She was so proud to show us around her assisted living facility and to introduce us.  We met a man named Paul who faithfully took care of his wife for 14 years as she suffered from Alzheimer's. Now a widower, he is in ill health but you would never know it by looking at him.  He meets a group of ladies every morning for breakfast and then again at lunch.  All of the ladies enjoy his company, including my grandmother.  One of her "friends" had taken her place at the breakfast table this morning and she didn't get to sit with him...and I don't think she liked that very much.  She enjoys his company too.  And Paul?  He lovingly calls all of his friends, with a sparkle in his eyes, his "harem."  He is kidding of course!

The dining hall is a happening place.  It reminded me of my days at Baylor in the dining Hall at Collins.  It was all about who you sat with and it was always full of laughter...just like Grandmother's dining hall.

Two sweet ladies came over to meet us.  One of them just had to touch Rachel's arm and the other one had to feel Hannah's hair.  They told us that they had heard that we were there and couldn't wait to meet us.  Isn't that fun?  (My Dad was just a day behind us, which we didn't know at the time.  I think one of the same ladies told him that she had met his wife and daughters the day before.  Ha!  He smiled and said, "My daughter and granddaughters!").

Grandmother showed us the game room.  I like this photo because you can see Hannah's hand on great-grandmother's back in the mirror behind them.  You can see me too, if you squint.  Ha!

In the game room there were two men playing pool.  I thought they were so cute.  We overheard one say to the other, "You only have 3 more days to shop before Christmas!"  and then they chuckled to themselves.
My grandmother may have recently fallen but she was determined to only stay in a wheelchair for a short time.  She is back on the move with her walker.  I love this picture of Grandmother and Hannah.  Back in the day, Grandmother was tall too, not quite as tall as Hannah is now, but Grandmother was tall.
We found the fireplace and decided to take a few pictures.  I bravely handed my camera to my girls and this is the picture they took....that I will treasure.
Grandmother with her great-granddaughters:  Rachel and Hannah.
She took us over to the organ where she sat down and played Christmas carols while we sang.  What a special memory!

And after 5 songs, she was done and on the go again.  She is having trouble with one of her feet so she just took her shoe off and walked the rest of the way with one shoe on and one shoe off.  I had to snap a picture:
And this is her "Cadillac" as she calls it.  We are thankful that she is able to get around so well.  A lot of the residents decorate their walkers for the seasons and holidays.  I thought her "Cadillac" was adorable.  The ornament in the middle lights up whenever you turn it on.  Another residents admired her ornament and asked Grandmother where to buy one just like it.  She told them to go to Walmart....but the ornament came from Hobby Lobby.  I love it that my 95 year old grandmother is still ornery!

It was hard to say goodbye to her.  We left Tulsa with grateful hearts to the One who blessed us with a special trip to see Grandmother. I didn't get to do my regular Christmas baking this year, no PW Cinnamon Rolls, or my Granny's Special Brown Sugar Pound Cake.  But, you know what?  I got to spend time with my grandmother and that was more important this year!

One Life Changed the World

....One changed my life completely.  As we celebrate the birth of Christ my heart is filled to overflowing as I reflect on the One whom we celebrate.  Happy birthday dear Jesus! May You be honored and glorified as we honor and celebrate You!  Thank You, Father, for Your precious gift!  May all of our hearts and homes be filled with Your precious gift, Your Son, this Christmas day!

Tammy's Bridal Portrait {A Sneak Peak}

Last night I had the privilege of taking Tammy's bridal portraits.  Tammy is getting married next month to the man of her dreams....how exciting!  She and I teach at the same high school and I had so much fun on her photo shoot.  My girls and their friend Ashely came along to help and to check our our ultra-cool location.

We took pictures in the historical convent in our town...a place where very few people get to see the inside.  I was giddy with excitement to be there.  I absolutely love the juxtaposition of her beautiful wedding gown against the rugged and worn walls. Tammy, you  looked gorgeous! Thank you for allowing me the blessing of being the one behind the camera.   Enjoy your sneak peak!

Basketball Season, Baby!

I love to watch my baby girl play basketball.  I really do!  I love sitting next to my parents, Rachel, Mr. Incredible, Nonnie, Poppie, Aunt Sissie, Uncle G, and my nephews.  I love hearing my dad say "Ooooh!" in his booming voice every time Hannah scores. I love seeing Hannah flash me a giant smile when she scores or has a slam.  And my favorite part is giving Hannah a giant hug after the game!  Monday night basketball is awesome!

Last night the girls won 48-5.  Forty-eight to five!  Woo-hoo!  Do you want to see some pictures?  Pretty, please?  Oh, good thank you!

It was fun to see Hannah line up for the jump ball.  The referee in this picture is a minister and he is a lot of fun.  One of the moms in the stands asked him if he could hear us hollering at him.  He laughed and said that he has been married for a long time and he doesn't listen to his wife so why would he listen to us. Ha!

Hannah got the ball for her team, we missed our first shot and then it was time for defense.  Check out the picture on the right.  Can you say, "attack?"
I'm sure the girl in the picture below felt a little overwhelmed by our defensive trio.  My dad gives Hannah a "Tip of the Week," before each basketball game and Hannah looks forward to each one.  This week, he told her to get big and tall in the lane.  With her 5'11" height she has a pretty good wingspan and can take up a lot of space in the lane.  She took his advice..see images #1 & #2.

Picture #3 shows how hungry our girls were for the ball.  The other team didn't stand a chance.
I'll never get tired of watching Hannah shoot the ball.
This next group of pictures needs a little explaining Lucy (remember when Ricky would say that to Lucy on I Love Lucy~love that show).  Anyway, do you remember when we almost missed our vacation to St. John because Hannah was injured on the court during summer ball?

Well, this was the team that we were playing this summer and #44 was the girl who maliciously swiped Hannah's legs out from under her. I'm not being dramatic, this girl had it our for Hannah the entire game.  The referees didn't put a stop to it and Hannah ended up landing on her hip.  It was awful!

Anyway, after church Sunday morning while we were having lunch, Hannah mentioned to me that she was looking forward to playing the girl who swept her legs out from under her...and then she smiled a very mischievous smile.  She hadn't forgotten.  Oiy!

Fast forward to last night's game.  While the girls got ready to play, Hannah motioned to me that the girl was #44 and then the game began.  #44 tried to dish it out all night, but Hannah dished it right back to her.  Just look at how she hollered in Hannah's face every time Hannah shot a basket:

Hannah didn't let the other girl push her around.  During the game, #44 grabbed Hannah's jersey and my mom turned to me and said, "Look at that!  Did you see her grab Hannah's jersey?"  Yes, I had, but then I showed mom a few pictures I had just taken of Hannah plowing her elbow into #44's back.  And then we both felt better. Ha!

#44 couldn't keep Hannah from scoring so they put #33 on Hannah.  I like these next three pictures.  #33 made Hannah work for it, but still she was able to score.  I think she ended the game with 12 points.  Her buddy Skyler (#45 on our team) made 18 points.  Wow!

It was another great night of basketball.  Delight!

After the game, I asked Hannah how it felt to play against #44 again.
She smiled and said, "She'll feel me in the morning!"
  (And just between you and I, I smiled big time on the inside! )

"V" Family {A Sneak Peak}

This weekend, I had the blessing of photographing the "V" family. Even thought it was only 48 degrees, we managed to find a little warmth as we visited a couple of locations. It thrilled my heart to hear them say that the photo shoot was so much fun and that they felt very much at ease in front of the camera...I love hearing that, it is music to my ears!

Miss Anne's mom was quite the trooper as she braved the cold to take pictures with her daughter, and grandchildren. I hope ya'll enjoy your sneak peak, from the warmth of home. :-)  More pictures to follow soon.

The "S" Family {A Sneak Peak}

Last night Hannah and I had the absolute blessing of photographing the "S" family!  I have talked Mr. Incredible's ear off telling him about all the fun that we had.  The "S" family is dear to our hearts.  Their oldest son is in the same grade as Hannah.  His momma taught Rachel and Hannah when they were in 5th grade and his daddy came to our rescue on the day that our horse had to be put down.  I've never forgotten his kindness.

I've been looking forward to this family photo shoot for weeks.  And it was everything I had hoped that it would be.  They were dressed to the nines in their finest western wear and Hannah and I were just giddy with excitement to be on their ranch and to see their horses, dogs, and cattle.  It was an absolute blast!

Thank you, "S" family for allowing me the privilege of being the one behind the camera.  What a blessing to capture your beautiful family; your love for each other is so evident!  Enjoy your sneak peak, with more to follow soon!
