One of my favorite moments was the Q and A session. He was asked, "What would you do if you were getting out of the limo at prom and your dress ripped from the waist down?" Spencer paused for a moment and replied, "Well, I would just keep walking!" And the crowd roared with laughter!

Wanna Go for a Drive?

On our road trip last Saturday to the tennis tournament we saw much more than tennis. Wanna come along for the drive?

We saw this thing, that I thought was a ram, but one of my students told me it is called an aoudad:


And this momma sheep nursing her babies. You have got to click on the photo to see her face. Bless her heart...and her sore "you know whats!"


And then she ran away...she must be camera shy or maybe this was her chance to take a little break. Her little babies don't know what to think.


We saw some deer which made Mr. Incredible's heart race a little (he is a deer hunter) and more sheep:

And a beautiful horse having his lunch. Well, I think it's a boy...but I'm not going to zoom in and look. You go ahead if you like and let me know. Ha!







And a donkey which made us think of Shrek, "Hey Don-kay!"





And then I spotted this strange creature. I had to zoom in from far away but determined it was an Alpaca or a Llama. I don't really know the difference between the two, do you?





We saw lots of rocky areas on our drive:


And then some men on horseback with their trail dog. You gotta love Texas!

Game, Set, Match!

Last Saturday was the district tennis tournament. Remember? The one that was 2 hours away? Oiy! Hannah had to be at school at the early hour of 5:45 a.m. I wish that I were kidding. Mr. Incredible offered to take Hannah to school so that I wouldn't scare everyone in my beautiful pink bathrobe (you are welcome, Hannah).


Anyway, we didn't follow the bus to the tournament. We left at 8:30 instead and arrived just in time to watch Hannah play her first match. And it was FREEZING outside! I wore my cute little reef flip-flops and crop pants since Mr. Incredible told me that it was going to be 70 degrees! Thankfully I packed a blanket and a jacket. Brrr!


Hannah and Skyler had an easy win. I think it was 8 to 1. Then we waited an eternity, not really- just 4 hours, until her next match. Again, I wish that I were kidding! We retreated to the rattlesnake killing suburban to wait it out in the warmth of the car.


Finally it was time to see our baby girl play again. This match wasn't quite so easy. The girls were down 5 to 1. And then they made a HUGE come back! They brought the games to 6 to 5 and they were ahead. Woo hoo! But, in the end they lost 8 to 6. Boo!













Then we waited another eternity, or so it seems until Hannah's championship (meaning for 3rd or 4th place) game. We decided that since our last meal was at 8:00 that morning and it was now 3:30 that we needed to find something to eat. The town we were in was very small so it only had 2 convenience stores and day-old-fried burritos did not sound appealing.

We chose to make a 45 minute drive to the nearest town where incredible Mexican food awaited us. We inhaled a basket of chips in 5 seconds flat, I think. The waitress just smiled and kindly brought us some more chips until our order came. We were starved...and I think it showed.

We made the 45 minute drive back to watch Hannah play where the sun finally came out. Delight! Hannah and Skyler played so well. They ended up tying the championship game. It was 7 all and then 8 all and then they lost in the end. They finished the district in 4th place and we are so proud of them.

I love this look of concentration and I am so proud of her! Hannah has made straight A's all year, ran Cross Country, played basketball, ran track, and played tennis. Whew!

We only have 13 more days of school and for the first time this year there is not an athletic event to be a part of...strange!

Mr. SHS Pageant

Tonight our high school is sponsoring a Mr. SHS Pageant where the guys dress up as...um...how do I say it...girls! It's a fun tradition to raise some money for FFA (Future Farmers of America). Rachel is sponsoring one of her football buddies. He is a super sweet, extremely fun, full of energy, but a very macho kind of guy...and he is a good sport too.

Last night Spencer came over to put together his ensemble. He had to come up with a talent, something to wear for the talent competition, and formal wear. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. He asked the girls why he was doing this and they replied that if he wins then he will win some money and then it was game on. Nothing like a little competition to make this manly man go all out for a beauty pageant.

He tried on several outfits and in between a lot of giggles and a few tears from laughing so hard, I tried to snap a few photos (they are not quite as clear as I would have liked for them to be because I was having a hard time holding my camera still...with all of the giggling and all). Here is Spencer, or should I say "Sissie":



The dress would not go around his massive shoulders so Rachel and her friend Kim improvised and pinned a silver shawl to "Sissie's" dress:



And then the girls had fun trying on different wigs:


Then they tried on this outfit for the talent competition. I think "Sissie" is singing Shania Twain's song, "Man, I Feel like a Woman" which is perfect. Look at Rachel's face as Spencer is primping and stylin' in front of the mirror:

Except for a few "girl" issues. He asked for my help, but there was no way I was going there. I like my job as a teacher. So, Kim stepped in and made him some "girls"....thank you, Kim!

I think "Sissie" is looking more like a beauty pageant contestant after all:

Oh, he is such a good sport. We hope that he wins tonight's pageant!

A Mother's Day Shrimp Boil

I hope that you had a wonderful mother's day! I thought of so many of you yesterday....many who were celebrating their very first Mother's Day, and many who were missing their sweet mothers. Mother's Day is a special day but it can be so bittersweet too, can't it?

From the time that I was a little girl, I can remember wanting to be a mommy. I had big dreams of being a mommy and I can honestly say that God dreamed even bigger dreams for me. I don't have adequate words to describe what it means to me to be called Momma by my girls. They are the absolute joys of my life.

My sweet daugters went shopping together for me this year without their daddy. This was a first. They even picked out their own cards and paid for them with their own money. I love how much they love me, but I don't want them to spend their money on me. They are my true mother's day gifts!

They surprised me with a beautiful frame with the verse that you see on my blog's header. They are so precious! Naturally, I cried. We went to church together and then had a quick lunch at the house so that Mr. Incredible could take his mom her gift and spend some time with her and then we had my parents over for dinner. We had a delicious shrimp boil....one of my absolute faves! Here is a picture of Mr. Incredible with all of the deliciousness:



I just had to take this next pictures...I had already bought the shrimp last week but Mr. Incredible had to buy some special shrimp (special shrimp sounds funny to me). My shrimp are true shrimp in size, his are the ginormous ones that Hannah completely devoured. They were so good!



Then we had a relaxing night at home. We watched the end of the Amazing Race and enjoyed our time together. Thank you, sweet family!



I thought I would share the recipe with you. Please, make this sometime and serve it the old fashioned way...on newspapers. Easy clean up but totally delicious!

Shrimp Boil (Our Family Favorite!!!)

10-12 whole small red potatoes4-6 small ears of corn (I use the frozen ones)
1 pound of cleaned, de-veined shrimp w/ tails
2 links Cajun smoked sausage cut diagonally
2 T Old Bay Seasoning (I use a lot more!)

Boil 8 quarts of water,
with salt and Old Bay Seasoning. After your water is boiling:
Add potatoes and cook for 10-12 min.
Add sausage and corn on the cobb and cook for 7 minutes.
Now add shrimp and boil another 3-5 minutes (just until pink).
Drain and pour contents onto your newspaper lined table(now that is an easy tablescape....newspaper that's it!).
Sprinkle w/ salt and serve w/ butter, Old Bay Seasoning, cocktail sauce and lemon wedges.
So delicious!!!

Yes! It's Friday!

Happy Friday! After yesterday, I feel like I am crawling to the finish line of this week. do you ever feel like that? My high school students are a bit on the cranky side...they are ready for summer break and their teacher is too! Our schedules are filled to overflowing at home and at school and to top it all, I had to see an orthopedic doctor yesterday because my knee is still bothering me after my fall in front of all of my UIL students 7 weeks ago.

The doctor prescribed physical therapy two times a week. Great! I'll try to work that in. I'm thankful that nothing is broken but I am not too thrilled about being in therapy. Ha! That last line I just typed makes me giggle. If summer doesn't come very soon I may have to be in therapy (not that having to be in therapy is a laughing matter....my mood is a bit on the random side today~sorry if I offended anyone).

I'll try to get back on track. Hmmm...what was I wanting to post today?

Oh, yeah. I didn't post pictures of Hannah's middle school dance last week. Hannah just broke up with her boyfriend (take a breath Mr. Incredible(that's what I call my hubby)) so she wasn't sure that she wanted to go to the spring dance but her friends talked her in to going and she had the BEST time.

All sorts of friends asked her to dance including one special friend (long breaths, Mr. Incredible). She had fun telling me all about it. Here is what my baby girl looked like before she headed to the dance:

On another note, one of my senior students in my Multi Media class at school is trying to finish up her senior announcements. She is trying to save a little money so she had a friend take her photos. She proudly showed them to me this week. The photos were good but I asked her if she would let me play with them a little bit. She agreed. This is the photo that I started with (again I did not take this photo):
