It's White It's Black....Yeah...Yeah...Yeah

DIY Day @ ASPTL

Finally! I am posting pictures of my front door makeover. And thanks to all of you wonderful decorators, I made a decision to go from a white door to black. (It's white, it's black...yeah yeah yeah....remember MJ's song?)

Here is my door before:

And after a little black paint:

I really, really like it!

I needed a little something to go with the front door makeover so I remembered these ice-cream/soda shop chairs that I was blessed to receive from Mr. Incredible's Mimi. Perfect!

Here they are in their natural, rustic state:

I thought of all of you spray painters extraordinaire and grabbed my can of black spray paint. While I waited for them to dry, I put together a wreath for my front door. I seem to be the only house on our street with a wreath. Do you have a wreath on your front door?
Anyway, I bought this wreath at Hobby Lobby; it was 50% off:

I like it, but it just needs a little something extra, don't you think?

I pulled out my handy dandy hot glue gun...oh how I heart you:

....and a few feathers and black and white gingham ribbon:

I just added a little hot glue to the feather stems (that sounds funny...feather stems) and put them in place. I made a little bow and wired that in too:

I added a new welcome mat (from Target):

Added the chairs and some potted red geraniums (thank you mom):

And walla.... I love it!
The plants on my front porch have never been so well watered. I just love going outside my front door now. I had to add our Baylor stone piece to the mix because the majority of our neighbors are Texas Tech fanatics. Sic 'em bears!

I almost forgot, I spray painted the lanterns black too and I didn't shock myself or get paint on the brick or anything. I call that a great day and a great project!
Joyfully,
Kristi

  1. Kristi, that looks fantastic! I love what you did. I recently re-did some things on my front porch, but no door painting for me. I love the plants at differnt heights, and I'm bettin' after the neighbors see your door, there'll be wreaths all over the town. :)

  14. What a difference! DH is installing a new front door at our house today (I hope *with fingers crossed*) while I am at work. I have no idea what color to paint it, though! I'm looking forward to finally getting it done though. I hope mine turns out a fraction as good as yours, cause then it will be great!

Thanks for linking up with me today.

  22. I was reading your post when I got the message on my blackberry that you had left a comment on my last blog. :o)
I love the new front porch, So inviting! I think I have figured out from your previous post that you live in a sub-urb of Dallas? We live 2 hours east of Dallas in Mineola, TX and I have loved our little quiet simple life here for the past 7 years.
As usual God loves to stir the pot so to speak and it looks like in the next 4 months there is a good chance that we will be relocating to the Dallas metro area. I may need your advise, as I am completely overwhelmed by the whole idea.
My hubby and I were raised in Baton Rouge so we are used to city life, but we have NOT done city life with two kids!!! Please pray that my nerves calm down and that God will have His hand on us should this relocation proceed.

    Hugs!
    Betsy

  31. I love the black door and all the accessorizing. Beautiful. I think "black" is the new in color, of course, for me its always been my favorite color and I see people are finally catching on to its beauty! You really have a flare for decorating. Honestly if I had tried gluing feathers into a wreath it would have looked just like I glued feathers into it and not a work of art like you. Way to go sista!

Thanks for stopping by and visiting. I just love your new front door color. Now you have me thinking about changing to black. I've posted some photos recently of my front porch. I've been tired of the green for a few years. Also congrats on your graduation in May. That is wonderful! Blessings...Sherry
