I have one little green pumpkin growing in my pumpkin patch. The rest of the pumpkin plants are yellowed and spent and need to be removed. I still have a watermelon growing, a few cantaloupes, and lots of jalapenos and tomatoes. My squash plants are looking like the pumpkin vines. Planting, growing, and harvesting are so much fun, it's the pruning and the clearing away that is not so much fun. It's kind of sad to get the beds ready for winter.
While most of our days in Texas are still in the 80's, we have had a few nights in the 40's. I can't baby my plants like I did this summer so that combined with lower temps. are taking its toll.
My tackle was to clear out the spent plants and get ready to plant happy little spring bulbs that should bring joy and delight after winter.
But, speaking of pumpkins, I received a sweet email from a friend and thought I would share it with all of you:
A woman was asked by a coworker, "What is it like to be Christian?" The coworker replied, "It is like being a pumpkin." God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. Then He cuts off the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff. He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, and greed. Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see."
I really like that analogy.
So, from one pumpkin to another, let's shine for all the world to see!
Joyfully,
Kristi
That is so AWESOME thanks for sharing the pumpkin story I will have to remember that when some one ask me about Christ. I love reading your post about your garden and then seeing your pictures oh my, what a garden you have. The rabbit on winnie the pooh would've been proud, I'm sorry I have a strange personality lol. See I'm the rabbit so when I saw your garden I said thats what I have always wanted.....so too day I just repotted my house plants and potted some new flowers to put on the balcony. I'll just enjoy your hard work and beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteLove in Christ, Heather :)
Amen! That's always been a favorite of mine, too. Way to go on cleaning up your garden! = )
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute way to look at it lol. I'll never look at a pumpkin the same again.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I will use that with Brea when we clean out our pumpkin. I bought little baby ones the other day and she immediately wanted to "get the gross stuff out."
ReplyDeleteLove the pumpkin story! :D
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping that one of my friends at church will share some of her pumpkins from her garden soon. :D
Thanks for the reminder of how we can refocus on Christ through God's creation. I think I am going to go back to the store and pick up those pumpkin decorations after all.
ReplyDeleteOur pumpkins rippened way too early and are all rotten now! :O(
ReplyDeleteThat's a great tackle and a neat quote. I have only one pumpkin and it's just about read to pick. Hopefully, it will last until Halloween. Keep your fingers crossed:-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun story. I hadn't ever heard that one before. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat tackle. I too need to get busy clearing out my final harvest from the garden. That was actually part of today's tackle.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you'll stop by and visit my tackle.
I need to start cleaning out our garden as well (and preparing it for the concrete truck that will be arriving next summer). These 80-degree temps aren't inspiring me, though. It still feels like summer, but I know any day now I'm going to wake up to snow....
ReplyDeleteI have not heard this one before - what a great analogy!
ReplyDeleteAlso, Jimmy Mowles came up to us at church on Sunday. I didn't realize that your husband worked for him. What a small world!
I'm working right now but have your blog minimized in the background so that i can hear the music. What great tunes!!
